(MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA)—State Senator Harri Anne Smith (R-Slocomb) was named Tuesday as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs.
The appointment makes Senator Smith one of only a few Republicans to be named Vice Chair of any committee in the Alabama Senate.
“I am honored by this appointment because the military is vital to both the security of our country and the economy of Southeast Alabama. Needless to say, our veterans hold a special place in our society and in my heart. I will continue fighting for their needs as well as being an advocate for Fort Rucker,” Senator Smith said after being named.
Larry Hart, Political Liaison of the Lower Alabama Veterans Alliance, said, “This appointment is fitting because Harri Anne understands as well as anyone in the Legislature just how much the active military and veterans mean to the Wiregrass. Her knowledge of veterans’ issues and record of helping veterans and their families are second to none,” he added.
Other Senators serving on the Veterans and Military Affairs Committee with Senator Smith include Chair, Phil Poole; Larry Dixon; Hank Erwin; Jimmy Holley; Hinton Mitchem; Quinton Ross; Zeb Little; Ben Brooks.
Harri Anne Smith represents Senate District 29, which includes all of Geneva and parts of Houston and Dale Counties.
