Auburn man gets 18 years for extortion plot

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - An Auburn man has been sentenced to 18 years in federal prison for interstate extortion and other sex-related charges.

U.S. Attorney Alice Martin in Birmingham said 24-year-old Jonathan Wryn Vance was sentenced Thursday in federal court. He pleaded guilty to 34 separate counts in Jan.

Vance admitted he repeatedly used computers to transmit threatening e-mail messages on Facebook and MySpace to extort nude photographs from more 50 underaged females and young women in Alabama, Pennsylvania and Missouri.

Vance will have to register as sex offender and pay more than $10,000 in restitution to his victims.
