House to debate allowing overseas Internet voting

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama House is to consider a bill that would allow some Alabama residents overseas to cast their ballots over secure Internet connections.

The bill would change the way voters overseas request ballots and cast their votes.

That includes military personnel fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The bill is supported by Secretary of State Beth Chapman and is the first measure on the House work agenda for today.

The proposed legislation would allow Chapman to test Internet voting from select overseas locations in the 2010 state elections.

The bill is sponsored by Democratic Rep. Jimmy Martin of Clanton.
