Alabama mother, son die in smoke-filled house

GRAYSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Investigators are trying to determine what caused a house to fill with heavy smoke and claim the lives of a mother and her son in Graysville.

Authorities said both victims were found at about 8:30 a.m.
Tuesday.

The Jefferson County sheriff's office identified the victims as
69-year-old Loretta Elizabeth Higgins and 50-year-old Johnny
Higgins.

A preliminary investigation indicated a pot of oil left on the
stove may have ignited a small blaze and each victim died of smoke
inhalation.

Graysville is located approximately 15 miles northwest of
Birmingham.
