MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A Mobile County sheriff's deputy shot a 52-year-old man three times after a chase during a robbery investigation.
Sheriff's spokewoman Lori Myles says deputies believed Timothy Douglas Jones was involved in the robbery of a Family Dollar store only minutes before the chase Saturday. Jones was shot in the chest, arm and leg. He was taken to the University of South Alabama Medical Center in fair condition.
District Attorney John Tyson Jr. says Jones refused to show his hands when the deputy commanded and lunged at him at least twice, saying the shooting appeared to be justified. Jones had crashed his blue GMC pickup truck in the police chase.
Myles says Jones was on probation for robbery at the time of Saturday's shooting.
