Sims gets life without parole in Birmingham court

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Lakendall Sims has been sentenced to two
consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole for the
2007 murder of Mary Catherine Williams.

Circuit Judge Mac Parsons handed out the sentence in the
Bessemer courthouse Friday, following the recommendation of a jury
that convicted Sims in January. He could have received the death

Testimony pointed to Sims as the person who set out to rob
19-year-old Williams as she stood outside a Bessemer bakery. Sims
took $11 from her, then forced her into the trunk of her car at

Sims, Tarquinne McCain, James Pratt and Travis Burns then took
her to an abandoned storage facility where Sims sexually assaulted
her. Williams was then shot and her decomposed body was found one
month later.
