MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Officials hold a ceremony on Mobile's
waterfront to spotlight plans for the $36 million National Maritime
Museum of the Gulf of Mexico, which is expected to open in spring
The groundbreaking at 10 a.m. Thursday is set for Mobile
Landing, the city's downtown riverfront development and the
museum's future site near the cruise ship terminal. Some site
preparation work will start soon, with major construction coming
Participants in Thursday's ceremony represent the city, state
and federal governments and include Gov. Bob Riley, who will join
other supporters discussing the project.
