Mobile police charge man in 1996 slaying

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Police have made an arrest in a 1996 murder in Mobile.

Police spokesman Cpl. Charles Bagsby says 31-year-old Nathaniel Blanks has been arrested and charged in the October 14, 1996
shooting death of 17-year-old Jawanzee Marquis Harris.

The teen was shot on Morgan Street and murder charges were filed
against another man, but later dismissed.

Bagsby says Blanks surrendered Tuesday and has been charged with
murder.

Police did not say what led to the arrest or other leads they are pursuing in the slaying.

Blanks is being held in Mobile Metro Jail. It's unknown if he has a lawyer.
