MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A convicted sex offender from Florida has pleaded guilty to transporting an underaged female across state lines with the intent to engage in illegal sex.
U.S. Attorney Leura Canary said in a statement Monday, 47-year-old William Joe Mitchell of Jacksonville entered the plea in U.S. District Court in Montgomery.
Mitchell told a judge that he took a 15-year-old girl from Bartow, Florida, to Andalusia on Oct. 1, 2007.
Canary said Mitchell was previously convicted in Florida in 2002 of a felony sex offense against a child.
No sentencing date was announced.
