Ala. man drowns in canoe mishap on Ala. river

WARRIOR, Ala. (AP) - Alabama Marine Police say a Jefferson County man is presumed to have drowned after his canoe capsized in a ranch of the Black Warrior River at Warrior.

Recovery efforts resumed Monday after the flooded waterway receded to a manageable level.

Authorities said 42-year-old Timothy Sigafoose of Trafford and his 7-year-old son were putting a canoe in the water when it overturned Friday night.

19-year-old Derek Creel of Warrior who was called a "good Samaritan" jumped into the water to save both, but was unable to hang onto Sigafooose after he lost consciousness.
