MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A summary of action in the Alabama Legislature today, the 13th meeting day of the 2009 regular session:
-Vote failed to bring up for debate a bill to remove the state 4 percent sales tax from food purchases.
-Members of black caucus used stalling tactics to delay action on other bills to protest defeat of bill to remove sales tax from groceries.
-Approved Birmingham businessman Raymond J. Harbert as an Auburn
-Passed a resolution commending Paul Hubbert on his 40th anniversary as executive secretary of the Alabama Education Association.
-Approved Elizabeth Watts of Florence as a trustee for the University of North Alabama. AGENDA
-Senate Education Committee meets at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in room
727 of the Statehouse for a public hearing on a bill prohibiting school students from wearing clothes that expose their underwear.
-Senate Tourism and Marketing Committee meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday in room 609 to consider bingo legislation.
-Senate Finance and Taxation Committee meets at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in room 727.
-Senate Judiciary Committee meets at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in room 727.
-House Government Operations Committee meets at 9 a.m. Wednesday
in room 622 to consider a bill to ban novelty cigarette lighters in Alabama.
-House Public Safety Committee meets at 9 a.m. Wednesday in room
602 to consider a bill to require drivers and riders to wear helmets on certain vehicles including bicycles, motorized tricycles and motorized scooters.
-House Commerce Committee meets at 9 a.m. Wednesday in room 621.
-House Constitution and Elections Committee meets at 9 a.m. Wednesday in room 603 to consider a bill to allow overseas military voters to cast ballots over the Internet.
-House Education Appropriations Committee meets at 9 a.m. Wednesday in room 617.
-House Health Committee meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Joint
-House Committee on Boards and Commissions meets at 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday in room 601 to consider bill to regulate tax preparers.
-House Committee on County and Municipal Government meets at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in room 622.
-House Education Policy Committee meets at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday
