HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Dan Turner, a former Alabama highway
director and cabinet member under Gov. George C. Wallace, has died
Turner died Monday at a Huntsville hospital after health problems including the effects of a stroke, according to CraigWhisenant of Hazel Green Funeral Home.
The Meridianville resident, formerly of Wetumpka, was a Navy veteran and served in the Wallace cabinet as director of the Department of Transportation, Director of Emergency Management, and various other high-level state government positions for 27 years.
A visitation with the family will be Thursday evening, and a graveside service with military honors on Friday afternoon at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Monrovia.
