MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - State Rep. Butch Taylor has been
appointed to fill former state Rep. Sue Schmitz' seat on the House
committee that writes the state education budget.
House Speaker Seth Hammett said he appointed Taylor, a former
teacher and coach in Madison County, to fill the seat on the House
Education Appropriations Committee.
Schmitz, a Democrat from Toney, had to give up her seat last
month when she was convicted of federal fraud charges.
Taylor is serving his first term in the Legislature. He was
elected in a special election to fill a north Alabama seat left
vacant by the death of Rep. Albert Hall. Taylor is a Democrat from
