Heil to lay off 80 workers at Fort Payne plant

FORT PAYNE, Ala. (AP) - Waste and recycling truck maker Heil has
announced it will lay off about 80 workers at its Fort Payne plant.

Kristen Simpson, a Heil spokeswoman, said the layoffs are
effective this week.

She said declining orders for Heil-manufactured vehicles led to the job cuts.

In Jan., the company cut 100 jobs because of a downturn in the
U.S. economy.

Meanwhile, the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations said
laid-off workers at three Fort Payne hosiery mills may be eligible
for additional benefits, including health coverage and job
training.

Eligible individuals will be notified.
