3 People Killed in Accident on I-85 in Opelika

Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said the accident happened Friday when 27-year-old Irene Miller of Whaleyville, Md., lost control of her vehicle, crossed into the southbound lane and struck two vehicles.

Miller was killed instantly.

The collision also killed 51-year-old Steven Williams and 49-year-old Melinda Williams of West Point, Ga.

Bystanders helped pull a 6-year-old and 10-year-old girl from their vehicle before it caught fire.

A 25-year-old man who was driving a third vehicle was also injured.

The accident temporarily closed the interstate. Police are still investigating.
