MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A special election has been called to fill the Birmingham area Alabama Senate seat vacated by the felony conviction of former Sen. E.B. McClain. McClain is a Democrat from Midfield.
Gov. Bob Riley on Friday scheduled the political party primaries to fill the vacant Senate seat in western Jefferson County for May 12. Primary runoffs, if necessary, would be held on June 30 and a special general election was scheduled for Aug. 18.
If runoff elections are not needed in either major party the general election will be on June 30.
McClain's seat was vacated on Jan. 21 when he was convicted on
federal charges of money laundering, conspiracy, mail fraud and
