BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A sixth man has been arrested in the case of five men who were found slain in a Birmingham apartment complex in August.
Shelby County Sheriff's spokesman Capt. Ken Burchfield said 28-year-old Torre Jovan Gholston was arrested at his work on Feb. 6 and charged with two counts of capital murder.
Chief assistant district attorney Bill Bostick said the office received information that identified Gholston as being involved in the killings.
Records show Gholston in 2003 pleaded guilty to cocaine possession, received an 18-month suspended sentence and was placed on probation.
Authorities say the slayings were a murder-for-hire operation connected to $450,000 that was missing and owed to a Mexican drug cartel.
The victims had been tied up, beaten and electrically shocked.
Their throats were slashed.
