MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama State University Board of
Trustees is upset over a bill introduced by Sen. Roger Smitherman
to rename the school's acadome for Joe L. Reed.
The board stripped Reed's name from the sports building last year after he filed a court challenge to severance pay for outgoing ASU president Joe Lee.
Trustees issued a statement Friday saying Smitherman's bill sets a bad precedent and opens the doors for legislators to randomly rename buildings at other state colleges and universities.
