Wiregrass Electric Cooperative announces that at approximately 5:15 a.m. this morning, Thurs., Feb. 5, their Brannon Stand Substation near Dothan lost power to approximately 1,200 consumers.
The outage was the result of a conductor fault on the line.
The majority of those affected were reconnected by 7:45, with the remainder by 8:45 a.m.
"Because the outage occurred during a peak time, we brought sections back on to avoid overloading the system due to the low 20's temperature," said Danny Ealum, Wiregrass Electric's Director of System Operations. "We again observed a peak load this morning."
"Wiregrass Electric apologizes for the inconvenience to all those affected," said Brad Kimbro, Wiregrass Electric's Director of Member Services, "and we appreciate everyone's patience and understanding. We want to assure everyone that we are taking all measures to prevent this type of outage occurring again."
Kimbro advises members to utilize the toll-free outage reporting system when notifying Wiregrass Electric of an electric outage. That number is 1-888-4-MY-OUTAGE (or 1-888-469-6882).
Wiregrass Electric Cooperative serves more than 22,000 consumers in portions of six Alabama counties including Houston, Geneva, Covington, Coffee and Dale.
