Trussville man kills self in lengthy standoff

TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A 44-year-old man was found dead in a
house in Trussville Thursday at the end of a lengthy standoff with
police and sheriff's deputies.

Police said 44-year old James Robert Wells Jr., apparently died
of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The nearly 20-hour standoff started at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday
when Wells reportedly fired shots at officers who were sent to the
house to check on his welfare.

Around 9 a.m. Thursday, authorities entered the house and found
Wells' body.
