Suspect In I-20/59 Fatal Shooting Surrenders

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Police have arrested and charged 42-year-old Charles Wilson of Birmingham with murder in the shooting death of a coal miner found early last Sunday on Interstate 20/59.

Wilson surrendered Friday night to federal marshals and Birmingham police. His bond is set at $75,000. Wilson's attorney, Eric Guster, says his client was not involved in the shooting and police have charged the wrong person.

The victim, 33-year-old Charles Bevelle, of Hueytown, had been involved in an altercation at a nightclub. He drove away and another car struck Bevelle's car, causing it to wreck in Ensley.

According to police, a car then pulled up near Bevelle's car, and someone inside the second car got out and shot Bevelle to death.
