were killed when their vehicle was swept away by flood waters in
Alabama state troopers said the tragic accident happened Tuesday
night just after 8 p.m. near Reform.
Troopers identified the victims as 27-year-old Crystal Vaughn
and her 18-month-old son.
Investigators said Vaughn, a resident of Gordo, was driving on a
rural road when a culvert burst and swept her vehicle downstream.
Troopers said a second vehicle was also submerged, but both
occupants managed to get out of the car. One of them was treated at
a Tuscaloosa hospital and released.
Drenching rains on Monday and Tuesday prompted a series of flash
flood warnings in several West Alabama counties.
