1 Killed, Another Wounded in New Year's Day Shootings

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Gun violence marred the New Year's Day
holiday in Alabama's capital city.

Montgomery police say a 32-year-old man was shot and killed early Thursday at a motel on the city's west side.

Police Captain Huey Thornton, a spokesman, said officers found Shawn Rodgers of Montgomery mortally wounded on the grounds of the Peddler Inn.

The shooting occurred just before 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

Thornton said a 30-year-old female was also shot, but her injury was not considered life threatening.

He said the woman, whose name was withheld, refused to talk to officers about the suspect.

No arrests were made, but Thornton said the double shooting is
under investigation.
