Holiday Gunfire in Mobile Injures Child

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Celebratory gunfire from New Year's Eve injured a 7-year-old girl in Mobile.

Police said the girl was taken to the University of South Alabama's Children's and Women's Hospital after being hit in the leg by a stay bullet.

Police spokeswoman Jacqueline Bridgeforth said Thursday the girl's injuries were minor. The girl's name was not made public.

Mobile police said they received 119 calls about shots being fired Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. That was down from 188 complaints a year ago.

Bridgeforth said police arrested one person early Thursday morning for discharging an AK-47 into the air.
