Alabama Air Quality

A report by the Conservation Alabama Foundation found excessive
levels of toxic substances in the air in Birmingham, Mobile,
Montgomery and Huntsville.

Executive director Adam Snyder said Phenix City had the same problem, even though it's smaller.

Snyder said that of 15 chemicals that were studied, data showed
levels in the air that were "far beyond" safety limits
established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The foundation wants the state to enact new rules to monitor air
quality in neighborhoods.

A spokesman for the Alabama Department of Environmental
Management said regulators have a copy of the study and will review
it.
