Former school principal indicted for theft

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A former middle school principal has been indicted on theft charges for stealing more than $68,000.

43-year-old Bernard Johnson faces a single count of first-degree theft following his indictment by a Mobile County grand jury on Friday.

Authorities alleged the money was taken from Booker T. Washington Middle School. The missing funds were discovered in an audit conducted by school officials.

Johnson turned himself in to police Wednesday and was released on $7,500 bond.

His attorney declined to comment on the charges.
