Dallas County Wife convicted of Murder For Hire

SELMA, Ala. (AP) - A Dallas County woman has been convicted of
capital murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole for
the murder-for-hire slaying of her husband.

A jury in Selma returned a guilty verdict Monday against 47-year-old Vanessa Gill of Valley Grande. District Attorney Michael Jackson said Gill was sentenced to life in prison without parole because the victim's family didn't want to seek a death sentence.

The district attorney said Vanessa Gill hired her nephew to beat her husband with a baseball bat. But defense attorney Julian McPhillips accused the nephew, Curtis Cook, of making up the story. Cook is awaiting trial.
