Former Child Support Worker Sentenced to Prison

CLANTON, Ala. (AP) - A former employee of the Chilton County
Department of Human Resources has been sentenced to prison for
ethics and theft convictions involving child support payments.

Former child support supervisor Darnell Owens was sentenced Thursday to 13 months in prison plus two years on probation. He must also pay $2,500 in restitution and perform 250 hours of community service.

Attorney General Troy King's office accused Owens of misappropriating about $3,500 in child support payments. Owens was
convicted Nov. 5 of second-degree theft and violating the ethics law by using his public position for illegal personal gain.
