Kay Lynn Burdette was arrested on the manslaughter charge Monday
following her indictment by a Lee County grand jury.
Lee County Sheriff's Captain Van Jackson said the 44-year-old
Burdette prayed for spiritual healing instead of taking 17-year-old
Jesse Glenn Burdette to a doctor or hospital.
Her attorney, Ben Hand of Opelika, said Wednesday the grand jury
made a grave error and that Burdette is "a great mom" who thought
her son was getting well when he died.
Jackson said the teenager had been suffering from flu-like
symptoms for about two weeks and died in the family's home March
He said the cause of death was pneumonia.
Burdette was released from custody on $25,000 bond.
