East Alabama woman indicted for son's death

Kay Lynn Burdette was arrested on the manslaughter charge Monday following her indictment by a Lee County grand jury.

Sheriff's Capt. Van Jackson said the 44-year-old Burdette prayed for spiritual healing instead of taking 17-year-old Jesse Glenn Burdette to a doctor or hospital.

Jackson said the teen-ager had been suffering from flu-like symptoms for two or three weeks and died in the family's home March 19. He said the cause of death was pneumonia.

Jackson said he believes Burdette is a member of a nondenominational church.

Burdette was released from the Lee County Detention Facility on $25,000 bond. It was not immediately clear Wednesday if she had a
lawyer.
