DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - Police said an Elkmont man may have been under the influence of methamphetamine as he tried to run over seven people before crashing his car into a ditch.
Residents called police at 3 p.m. Saturday after they said 32-year-old Walter Bermingham terrorized them by shouting obscenities and chasing them with his vehicle. A police report says Bermingham made statements about the devil, tried to fight and cursed people at the scene. Seven people, between the ages of 24 and 60, were the victims of his alleged reckless behavior.
They told police they did not know Bermingham or any reason why he targeted them. He was treated at Decatur General Hospital for minor injuries.
