CLANTON, Ala. (AP) - A former employee with the Chilton County
Department of Human Resources was convicted of violating ethics
laws and stealing taxpayer money.
Alabama Attorney General Troy King said a jury Thursday convicted Darnell Owens on three counts of felony ethics violations and three counts of second-degree theft.
The trial started Monday.
King said in a statement that Owens, a former child support supervisor, misappropriated about $3,500 in child support funds.
He said the missing funds was discovered by DHR officials.
Sentencing is set for Dec. 11. Owens faces a possible prison term of two to 20 years.
He could also face thousands of dollars in fines.
