MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A police officer who was shot while
responding to reports of an attempted burglary at a Montgomery home
remains in stable condition today.
Police said a teenage suspect was shot and killed in the gun battle.
Lt. Keith Barnett said that 16-year-old Roderick Johnson of
Samford, Fla., was pronounced dead around 1 a.m. Thursday and his
death was ruled a murder.
Officers responding to a robbery call found four armed suspects
robbing seven occupants of a north Montgomery home around 7:30 p.m.
Barnett said the suspects exited the home and were confronted by police.
Gunfire was exchanged and three of the suspects, including Johnson, were shot.
Police said 38-year-old Samuel Giles, George Sanders and Harrison Giles, both 19, were arrested and charged with Johnson's murder and seven counts of first-degree robbery.
Giles was also charged with two counts of attempted murder of a

with them was killed during a crime.
One of the robbery victims was shot in the foot by the suspects.
