BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows a significant improvement in the Alabama drought situation.
Last week, more than 91 percent of the state was under some stage of drought. This week that has been reduced to about 73 percent.
Approximately 2 percent of Alabama remain under severe drought conditions. The Monitor reports "where the rains exceeded 2 inches, a one category improvement was made" in the survey. That includes a portion of south Alabama.
Still in some areas rainfall was too spotty to provide any relief from parched conditions.
