A jury in Andalusia has convicted former Covington County Probate Judge Sherrie Phillips on ethics and theft charges.

The jury issued the verdict late Wednesday afternoon after a three-day trial.

Phillips was accused of taking a $1.8 million check from an estate and putting the money into a personal account while she was probate judge. She resigned after being charged.

Attorney General Troy King, whose office prosecuted the case, said the conviction sends a strong message that no one is above the
