BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A man who escaped from the Bessemer
courthouse while on his way to a hearing was charged with escape,
burglary, robbery, theft and assault.
On Thursday, Lakendall Sims, a convicted rapist, did not appear in court as his attorney waived his right to a preliminary hearing.
Sims was on his way to a hearing on capital murder and home
invasion charges last month when he escaped.
According to police, Sims overpowered a bailiff and took his gun and
