PRICHARD, Ala. (AP) - Police placed Prichard's Vigor High School
on lockdown after a gunshot was fired outside.
According to police spokeswoman Latoya Veal, a man got out of a red
Chevrolet Suburban around 11 a.m. Wednesday, fired a shot in the
air and then got back in the car and left the scene.
Mobile County schools superintendent Roy Nichols said the gunshot frightened people but no one was injured.
School system spokeswoman Nancy Pierce said he school was kept
under lockdown, with no one allowed on or off the campus, until
about 1:30 p.m.
Veal said that when police arrived, school administrators told them of an unrelated fight on campus.
According to Veal, five teens have been charged with disorderly conduct and taken to Strickland Youth Center as a result of that quarrel.
