Suspect in Carbon Hill robbery Shot by Police

CARBON HILL, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say Carbon Hill Police Chief Bob King shot and wounded a robbery suspect who fired at him during a chase from a pharmacy.

Walker County Sheriff John Mark Tirey says the shooting happened as King responded to an alarm at Vickers Drugs in Carbon Hill around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday.

The suspect, whose name was not released because he's a minor, was airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham. He was shot in both legs.

King was not injured and has been placed on leave pending an investigation by the sheriff's office.

Tirey says preliminary reports indicate that King fired only after being fired upon by the fleeing suspect.
