Two-year colleges will be seeing green for their efforts during storm evacuations.
The Alabama Emergency Management Agency transferred an initial payment of $714,000 to the department of post-secondary education today.
This funding is for expenses some two-year colleges incurred while housing more than 8300 evacuees from Louisiana.
Community colleges billed FEMA for expenses.
FEMA sent funds to AEMA for transmission to the department.
Payment could not be processed until after October 1 due to state policy governing how transactions are handled at the end of the fiscal year.
