FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - A father and son from north Alabama are among 11 people arrested for alleged ties to a Mexican drug cartel.
Authorities said 64-year-old William Vandiver Sr. and 23-year-old William Vandiver Jr., both of Leighton, were taken into custody along with nine people arrested in Illinois.
Colbert County Sheriff Ronnie May said the men were allegedly members of the Juarez Drug Cartel. The arrests followed a 10-month
investigation into the cartel, which allegedly distributed cocaine and marijuana in the Chicago area.
Court documents allege the Alabama men got drugs from suspects in the Chicago area.
An attorney for the men didn't immediately return a message seeking comment Friday. A judge in Huntsville approved the transfer of the younger man to Illinois on Thursday to face charges there.
