AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - An Auburn University student has been killed
in a three-car accident on Alabama Highway 14 in Lee County.
The county coroner says 18-year-old Andrew J. Jackson Thurmond IV, a freshman from Hoover, died shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday.
The car in which he was riding apparently ran off the road at a high rate of speed, returned and collided head-on with a second vehicle, then spun and was hit broadside in the passenger side by a third vehicle.
The driver of the second vehicle was airlifted to Columbus Regional Medical Center in Columbus, Ga., while injuries to others were described as non-life threatening.
Harris said Thurmond was a passenger in a vehicle driven by
Scott Leighton, an Auburn University student whose home was listed
as Kildeer, Ill.
