PHENIX CITY, Ala. (AP) - A jury has convicted a Smiths teen for the rape of an 82-year-old Phenix City woman.
Jurors convicted 19-year-old Javarous Jermaine Hall of rape, sodomy, kidnapping and robbery Tuesday. Hall was charged on Aug. 7, 2007. Hall's victim testified Monday that he forced her at gunpoint inside her home, took $60 from her purse and then raped her.
Before escaping, he tied the woman's hands with a telephone cord. Hall was arrested the same day at his home.
A defense attorney said his client admitted to the robbery and kidnapping, but said another man raped the woman.
However, a prosecutor said Hall's DNA was found on the woman.
Hall will be sentenced Oct. 22.
