PELHAM, Ala. (AP) - It has taken a while, now state highway officials say work soon will begin to widen 5.4 miles of Interstate 65 in Shelby County.
The project, costing $78.4 million, was first announced in 2004.
DOT officials said a section of I-65 will be widened to 8 lanes from Shelby County 52 in Pelham to Valleydale Road in Hoover.
DOT Director Joe McInnes said Wiregrass Construction Co. in Ariton will perform the work.
The road work will start in the fall. Its scheduled to be completed in July 2001.
