Calhoun County Man Dies in Stabbing, Suspect Held

ANNISTON, Ala. (AP) - A 22-year-old suspect is jailed in the fatal stabbing of an elderly Calhoun County man.

Sheriff's Chief Deputy Matthew Wade said investigators placed Skyler Allen of Ohatchee in custody Tuesday.

Allen is charged in Saturday night's stabbing death of 77-year-old Jerry Shurbutt of Alexandria. He's also charged with first-degree theft.

The victim, according to Wade, died of multiple stab wounds in his home and his car was stolen. The vehicle was recovered Tuesday in Jacksonville.

Investigators are trying to determine if there are other suspects in Shurbutt's murder.
