MONROEVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A dog nicknamed Lucky is recovering after being dragged down a Monroe County highway.
Humane Society President Sara Dyess said the sweet-tempered Rottweiler mix could even become available for adoption.
A Monroe County man, 20-year-old Maurice Cunningham, remained in jail Tuesday with bail set at $75,000 on a felony charge of animal cruelty in Lucky's case. He allegedly dragged the dog through Peterman and dumped it into a stream while riding a stolen vehicle on Aug. 26.
Dyess said investigators were trying to determine if the dog belonged to a relative of Cunningham or if it was a stray. Cunningham's court-appointed attorney, Mickey Womble, said Tuesday he has not had an opportunity to review his clients case.
