MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - It took a circuit court jury about four hours to find Mario Woodward guilty of killing a Montgomery police officer.
Jurors returned the verdict Monday in the capital murder case against 32-year-old Mario Woodward.
The Montgomery man was on trial for the Sept. 28, 2006 shooting death of Officer Keith Houts. He was shot to death during a traffic stop in north Montgomery.
Jurors return Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. to begin deliberating the sentencing phase.
They can either recommend that Woodward be sentenced to die by lethal injection or spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole.
