MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama Marine has been honored at the state Capitol by Governor Riley.
Marine Sgt. Peyton Williams, a Wetumpka native, was recently named "Marine of the Year."
At a ceremony Thursday, Riley presented Williams with a special proclamation.
The 22-year-old enlisted man joined the Marine after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and has served in Iraq, Europe, Africa and the Mideast during his 4-years of service.
Williams said his enlistment ends in September and he plans to pursue a career in criminal justice.
