Montgomery Woman Convicted of Casino Thefts

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A Montgomery woman has been convicted on conspiracy and embezzlement charges in a scheme to steal funds from an Indian casino where she was once employed.

U.S. Attorney Leura Canary in Montgomery said 26-year-old Karla R. Dennis was convicted Thursday in U-S District Court.

Authorities said Dennis was an employee at the Tallapoosa Entertainment Center where she stole about $128,000. The casino is
operated by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.

Dennis faces a maximum sentence of 20 years for theft and five years for conspiracy.

No sentencing date was announced.
