It's not every day you here about people crossing state lines in order to catch a flick.

But Barbara and Jim Whitehead from Marianna aren't just anyone. They're taking this movie seriously.

“I think it's very important that people wake up and see what's coming if this fellow is re-elected,” Jim Whitehead said.

It’s that special time of year, and no, we're not talking about Christmas.

We're talking the heat of election season, where political ads have turned to full-on documentaries. Take 2016: Obama's America, for instance, written and directed by Dinesh D’ Souza, a conservative speaker and author.

While it's not at every theater today, it did play at Carmike 12 in Dothan.

James Jones describes himself as a constitution man, just the facts for him.

“Just information. Information is power. I’d like to empower myself before I place my vote in November,” Jones said.

Jones may have been the last lucky one to get in to the first showing Friday afternoon.

The parking lot started to fill. Some of the cars belong to members of the Houston County Republican Women Association. The president of the association showed up, looking forward to that 1:30 showing.

“It's a critical year for us, and we can use that as education," Valerie Judah said.

But they were turned away, having to wait for another showing. A local democrat made her way into the theater, only checking on show times of another movie for her and her son.

But when she saw the President’s face on a billboard, it surprised her.

"I was kind of shocked. I was kind of shocked to see his picture outside and I was just surprised, really," Arnet Richardson said.

Richardson, unlike many 2016: Obama's America moviegoers, will be voting to re-elect President Obama in November. Three other showings of the documentary were held at Carmike 12 Friday.
