2013 Legislative Session Wrapped Up

Lawmakers honored fallen Dale County bus driver Charles Poland.

Part of Highway 231 was named after Poland.

The resolution Senator Harri Anne Smith in Slocomb is most proud of named January 29th as Public School Bus Appreciation Day.

"From letters from our children about how special our bus drivers are to our children and what they do for the parents. There were letters that talked about when they forgot their lunch money Mr. Poland was there to lend them lunch money ," said Senator Smith.

Lawmakers also passed legislation making it a crime to trespass on a school bus.

Geneva County also received $750,000 to repair flood-damaged roads.

And an aviation bill cleared the way for more jobs.
